Outdoor Compasses

With the increased popularity of GPS systems and clearly signposted walking routes, many people feel that carrying an outdoor compass is unnecessary when hiking and mountaineering. From a safety point of view it is always a good idea to carry a back-up compass as batteries do run out and bad weather does decrease visibility. In any case, modern outdoor compasses are compact and lightweight meaning they will take up very little room in your pack and will not burden your shoulders.
