  1. Thermal Underwear & Accessories for Early Morning Commuting

With the summer officially over and the threat of early morning frosts ever present, you would be wise to wrap up warm before attempting your journey in to work. This is especially important  if you are walking or braving the roads on your bicycle.

Thermal Underwear to Keep You Warm

The key to keeping warm is to wear a number of thin layers of clothing – the layering system. The idea is to trap layers of warm air inbetween the different layers, as it is the air that is actually the insulator not the fabric. If you get too warm you can easily remove an item of clothing.

The first thing to remember is not to wear cotton thermal underwear in your layering system. Cotton absorbs many times its own weight in water but requires a lot of energy to release it – this is why you have cotton towels and why it also takes them so long to dry. You may be warm whilst you are walking but as soon as you stop you will start to get very cold as your body heat is used to evaporate the moisture stored within the cotton fabric.

To keep warm without a chill you want to be wearing synthetic thermal underwear such as Sub Zero Factor 1 base layer.

These are manufactured in the UK from a polyamide yarn that is extremely soft but very durable.  It has a moisture loving treatment impregnated in to the yarn that actively transports moisture away from the skin to the outer layer of your clothing so it can quickly evaporate. If it is really cold then use in conjunction with Sub Zero Factor 2 Mid Layer thermal underwear, one of the warmest thermal underwear ranges available on the market today.

    Stay warm, arrive safely!

Factor 1 Plus Seamless Thermal Underwear Base Layer

We have been developing this new range of seamless thermal underwear for over 3 years and have just released the full range in the UK after successful trials with our customers in Europe and the Far East.  The range  utilises the same yarn as our popular Factor 1 range but is knitted on a electronic individual needle selection machines. The benefit of using these machines is that we can build in technological features seamlessly such as rib zones for muscle support and mesh zones for increased perspiration removal. As with the rest of  Sub Zero thermal underwear ranges we have impreganted a hydrophilic treatment in to the fabric fibres during the finishing process for advanced wicking.

  6. New Factor 2 Mid Layer Thermal Underwear Range

For the 2009 winter season we have redesigned our Factor 2 range of mid layer thermal underwear. The long sleeve and zip turtle tops have beeen contoured along the length of the body to provide a much snugger fit.  We have added a drop back to avoid lower back exposure and added thumb holds near the cuffs. The zip turtle mid layer thermal underwear now has a soft fabric baffle behind the zip to prevent wind penetration. The long john (with fly) and bloo john thermal underwear leggings have also been contoured in the legs so they provide a much more tailored fit. We have removed the double fleece ankle cuff and replaced it with a much lower profile hemmed finish that will reduce boot and shoe pressure. For further details please check out the product description in the mid layer thermal underwear section of our site.
