If you have an accident or are lost it is vital that you do everything possible to help rescuers find you. A whistle is the absolute minimum piece of kit you should be carrying with you to alert emergency services to your location. Even in poor conditions, a strobe flash can be seen from a long distance. If you are not carrying one then turn your torch on and off at regular intervals.
